3rd Annual Paddle 'n Party on Shem Creek - November 4th
The 3rd Annual Paddle 'n Party was another outstanding event on Shem Creek. The weather turned out to be spectacular despite more than a week of below-normal temperatures in the week leading up. More than 110 paddlers competed in the Half-Moon Outfitters "Golden Nugget" 5K & 10K SUP Race. The party at the Lighthouse on the Creek was a blast for everyone. Partygoers enjoyed live music by "Minimum Wage", fresh beer from Palmetto Brewing, harbor tours aboard the Palmetto Breeze catamaran, more than 60 amazing silent auction items, and lots of great food choices from area restaurants.
We would like to thank all of our event sponsors, including Half-Moon Outfitters, Lucey Mortgage, Morris Financial Concepts, Buist Byars & Taylor, Red Drum Capital, Piggly Wiggly, Brockington Consulting, Palmetto Breeze, Lighthouse on the Creek, Southern Drawl, and Palmetto Brewing. Food was donated by Jimmy John's, Harbor Breeze, Melvin's, Five Loaves, Triangle Char & Bar, Cupcake, Delish! Bakery, T&T Kettlecorn, Marina Variety Store, and Mt Pleasant Seafood.

The Town of Sullivan's Island hosted a "Conservation Crawl" to two recently preserved properties on Sullivan's Island, as well as the site of future nature trails through the accreted land. - Dr. Richard Porcher - Professor Emeritus at The Citadel
- Melissa Bimbi - US Fish & Wildlife Expert

Sunset Cruises - May 17th and 24th
MPLC members had the opportunity to attend one of two complimentary boat cruises to Capers Island. These cruises were made possible through the generosity of Capt. Robert Hopkins, a local naturalist and former MPLC Board member.
More than 100 people came to the Marsh View Trail to celebrate the opening of a new Butterfly Garden, a partnership between several local entities and the Mount Pleasant Land Conservancy. The event featured a book-signing by local bestselling author Mary Alice Monroe who had just released the paperback version of "The Butterfly's Daughter". Students from Whitesides Elementary School Student Council sold lemonade, King of Pops and Roti Rolls were on site selling treats, and butterfly-friendly plants were sold. Local butterfly expert Linda Love (a.k.a. "Nana Butterfly"), and landscape architect Katy Wood, who designed the garden, were present to answer questions.
